My Blogging Tips

In 2023, it makes you wonder if Blogging is still relevant especially with content like YouTube, Instagram and Tik Tok. It does make you wonder if people are still taking the time to read blogs. In my opinion I still think blogging is relevant because it's something different and things like articles and blog posts get read daily. The big question you may be asking is should I start my own blog in 2023? My answer to you is you should if you want. It's a great way to express your thoughts and you can write your posts while wearing pyjamas. There are so many benefits and there's no rules to what your blog is all about. As I've been blogging now for nine years I thought why not share some tips that I've learned over the years that may help you to get started with your own blog.

1. Choose your Blog theme
The first thing to narrow down is what the theme of your blog is going to be. There are lots of different themes to choose from such as travel, beauty, fashion, parenting, and lifestyle plus many more. It's entirely up to you to choose and try to make it something you're interested in. Sometimes things can be a little niche and it may be a struggle to come up with ideas constantly so having a theme like lifestyle can really help you as you can talk about lots of different things and not just focus on one particular topic. Either way it's up to you but it's really important to nail down the theme of your blog before anything else so you know what kind of content you're going to make.

2. Choose a good name
Another important thing is to choose a good name for your blog. Now in 2023 this can be hard as every username under the sun has been used and there's also a lot of blogs out there so choosing a name might be difficult. It's also a good idea to check if the domain is available as that's one thing I would recommend buying is your own domain as it looks more professional than having the website's domain added to your site. Either way it's important to get your blog name nailed down.

3. Know which site you're going to use
There are lots of different sites you can use to have your blog on such as Blogger, Wordpress and Squarespace. It's up to you which one you choose as many have both good and bad things about them. I use Blogger and I haven't had a problem with it. I don't know about the others but Blogger is a good one to use for your blog in my opinion.

4. Figure out your schedule
It's really important to remain consistent when it comes to blogging and working out a schedule before you begin will really help you. Are you going to post on a specific day? Maybe once a week, twice a week etc. Either way as long as you remain consistent and post regularly then that's a way to keep readers coming back to your blog as they know to expect a post from you every week. It's important to nail down a schedule before you start your blog.

5. Start writing
Posts are the most important part of blogging. Without posts, there's no point in you having a blog so start writing. Your first post can be an introduction post to yourself and then the second can be linked to the theme of your blog. Try to make at least five posts before you start your blog. That way you can start being consistent with your posts and it will take some pressure off you knowing you have five scheduled posts lined up. Just use that burst of motivation you have to write as many posts as you can. I always recommend writing multiple posts in one session so you have a chance to schedule your posts and it means if you're having an unmotivated day then you already have a post ready to go so just start writing.

6. Spell and Grammar check
This is a really crucial one because nobody wants to read a blog with words spelt wrong or sentences that don't even make sense. I highly recommend just writing your post then once it's written, put it on a word document so you can spell check it and see if there's any grammar mistakes then of course edit it. It's really useful to do this because it can also make you see mistakes you may have missed had you not checked them. Plus I see this as an opportunity to have a read through of the post too just to make sure it all flows well.

7. Create a title card for your posts
This is something I highly recommend as it gives your posts more depth and makes it less boring. Plus when you're posting about your new post on social media, you can share the title card. Also it makes it easier for readers to know what your post is going to be about especially as you get more posts, the first thing people will see is the title card and it tells them the name of what each post is. Highly recommend creating a title card for your posts. The one I use to create mine is Canva but previously I used a website called BeFunky and PicMonkey so there's lots of free ones out there for you to use.

8. Share on social media
This is a big one because unless someone happens to randomly stumble across your blog then you're not going to get any readers. Plus your blog is one of many so it's important to share your blog on social media whether it's through Twitter (Now X), Instagram, Pinterest. It's important to make it known whenever you post a new blog post so that way you have more chance to get readers coming to your blog and if you use hashtags relevant to the post then there will be even more chance of getting readers to your blog.

9. Don't plagiarise
One thing that is really important is to try not to copy other blogs. It's okay to do similar posts or take inspiration but try not to flat out be a replica especially of popular blogs as many will see straight through you. Of course you're going to have days where you're struggling for ideas for posts. During this time, I do some research on what other blogs have posted. Sometimes I check Pinterest or go on YouTube for videos people posted for inspiration on what I could post about. Some posts are inevitably going to be the same like what's in my bags, day in the lives etc. but as long as you make it your own then there's no harm done. The best posts are the original ones so try to be as original as you can and soon you will have a unique selling point and your audience will soon grow.

10. Be yourself
This is really important to any blogger and that is to be yourself. Don't try to be someone you're not. Don't pretend to live some lavish lifestyle if you don't. The best thing you can do is be real. If you're having money issues, talk about it. If you're interested in books, talk about it. There's no rules to blogging but the important thing is to make sure you're doing it for the right reasons. Don't start a blog hoping it will make you famous and become the next Zoella because chances are that's not going to happen. Blog because you enjoy writing and you're happy with everything you post. Of course watching your blog get more and more viewers is a great feeling because it makes it worthwhile but don't forget the reason you started your blog. I started my blog out of boredom but in time I grew to love blogging and now I'm so proud with how my blog has grown these past nine years. Of course there's been some blips where life gets in the way and you can't post as much as you like to but as long as you're honest with your audience and try to learn from those unexpected breaks, it should be okay. Just be yourself when it comes to blogging as that is what makes your blog unique.
