Dissertation Survival Guide

Image
I may be a little late to the party as I assume dissertations will be due in around March/April time or maybe this might be the perfect time who need any sort of motivation to keep going with their dissertation. I thought I'd come on here and give any of you who may be procrastinating your dissertations right night a little bit of advice maybe even some inspiration to throw on top of that. As someone who has done a 10,000 word dissertation and a 14,000 word dissertation plus got a 2:1 grade on both of them, I thought I'd give you some tips on how to get through your dissertation.  1. Communicate with your supervisor Everyone gets a supervisor when they do a dissertation. Usually, you first meet your supervisor with a group of students who may be doing similar topics but most of the time it will be one on one with your supervisor. My biggest tip is to communicate with your supervisor. My biggest tip is to communicate with your supervisor no matter what because they want to help ...

Should You Get A Master's Degree?

Image
As someone who finished her master's last year and ended up getting a merit in the end. Was it all worth it? Well, it was different for me because I studied during the pandemic and only went to face to face lectures about ten times but most of the time of it was spent online which honestly sucked. I know the convenience of online lectures, but you feel very isolated from everyone and don't even really know the other students in your lecture. You're sometimes forced into a breakout room which is even more awkward because you don't even know who you're working with. Sometimes, you felt yourself switching off during the lecture because it would just be a PowerPoint presentation with no interaction the things sometimes went wrong like the screen would freeze or you can't even see the presentation. The one good thing to come out of it all was I learned how to work in a group remotely and even became the project manager of the group plus do a group presentation entire...

How To Be Organised In University

Image
It is very easy when you're in university to procrastinate. You're living away from home and have nobody to tell you what to do so it can be very easy to say I'll do that assignment tomorrow. Well, I'm here to give you some tips on how to stop procrastinating and get organised for university. 1.Planner/Wall Calendar  One thing that really helped me in university was a wall calendar where I could see my entire academic year on one poster. Now it's scary to see it all there and makes you feel like there isn't a lot of time left but that's why it helped me so much. It made me see that I don't have a lot of time to do assignments so it kept me organised. It was also a reminder everyday I had assignments due. The same is with the planner which I honestly struggle to use properly. Sometimes I hardly checked it but if I had a wall calendar up in my room I could check it. I do have one of those pocket sized planners for this year in the hopes that I'll ...

My University Advice

Image
Spending three years in university, I've learned a few things and I feel like I could give some advice for anyone going to university. As I'm going back to university in September to study for a masters degree and live in halls of residence, I hope these 11 tips will come in handy for any of you going to university so let's get started. 1. Leave your door open when you're moving in This is a great way to meet your new flatmates when you're moving in. These are the people you're going to be living with for the year so you may as well meet them. Don't spend the first day locked in your room unpacking, you have plenty of time to sort your room out and be unsociable. The moving day is a great time to meet people and make first impressions. Also people may think you're approachable if you leave your door open and it makes it less awkward if the door is closed because nobody on the first day will knock on your door so leave your door open on the first day...

Second Year

Image
I have basically finished with my second year at university. I've completed all my assignments, done my exam and I have no more lectures. It's crazy how quickly that has gone by. The reason why I've finished my second year of uni so early is because after Easter we have to do five weeks of work placement or in my case experiential learning which basically work placement but set in my university. It's just five weeks of doing work from nine to five everyday (except for weekends I think). It's like gaining experience for life after university which is relevant to the degree you're studying. Even though that is happening after Easter, I have no assignments or deadlines or exams to do. I do have to wait for the results of my assignments to see if I've passed or fail but I am pretty much finished. It's crazy how quickly university goes. One minute you're a carefree first year having the time of your life in uni. Next is when you're in second ...

Tips On Being A Productive Student

Image
Ah the first couple of months of university are slowly passing. Nothing but relaxation until you realise there's about two weeks until your first deadline and guess what, you haven't even started. Don't panic. It's not like there's also about five more assignments due in straight after the first assignment. Oh wait yes there is. Okay, I know you want panic mode to be turned on but I can help. I'm sure some of you are probably in this kind of situation. You're not alone. There are people who probably won't start their assignments until the night before. This is a very bad idea. Just follow my tips and you'll be fine. 1. Make A Plan This will make you feel less stressed out. First work out how many days until your first assignment is due in and then find out how much work you have to do for this assignement. If it's an essay start your research about the topic. Get a book or two out of the library. Referencing is key in university so ...

I Don't Know

Image
I don't know what to blog about today. Sometimes inspriration hits me unexpectedly and I think that will make a good blog post. However, today I've got nothing. I'm sitting in bed in my pyjamas as I write this at half past eight in the evening and I've literally got no idea what to post about. I could tell you about my day but it was pretty boring. I got up early and went to the libary to do some work for three hours. Came home for some lunch and put my laundry in the washing machine then went back out again for a two hour lecture. Came back after that, hung up my washing, had dinner and watched Shrek The Musical then I watched The Appretentice and washed up the dishes. Now here I am lying in bed and remembered that I needed to post on my blog. I thought I may as well be honest and say I have nothing interesting to post about today. However, at least I'm posting like I said I would. I'll try to make my posts more interesting from now on but I can't gu...

What's In My Uni Bag

Image
As I've been in university for nearly two months now I thought I'd share with you guys what's in my uni bag. This is actually the contents of my bag from my 9am lecture I had today and normally everything is just left in my bag except for one or two items which I take out. This is my bag. It's very big and can fit a laptop inside it. It has smaller straps to put on your wrist and it has a longer strap that you can put on your shoulder. It's the perfect size for me and there's always room inside it. It is from Peacocks and it's a kind of grey colour. It has a zipped pocket on the outside which I don't keep anything in it. On the inside it has a zipped pocket and a small open pocket as well as the main compartment of the bag. As you can see below the contents of my bag. The first thing which i keep in the little open pocket is my phone. It's the perfect size for my phone and this way I can easily find my phone. I just have the iPhone 5S but...

Resit?

Image
This is the time of year where everyone in university is getting their results and finding out whether they've passed the year. You know they have as they tell the world on Facebook that they have. That's great for them and you're happy for them. However.. You did not pass the year (yet) as you have failed one of your assignments which lead to failing your module. Oh dear. That's not good. All I can say to that is don't panic. It happens. Sometimes we fail assignments. It's perfectly normal. Plus like with all assignments and exams, you are allowed to resit them. Yay! It happens but the main thing is to not panic. Check your university emails. You will likely get one from your lectures saying about a drop in session to discuss what you can do. If I was you I would take the assignment with you on paper. They will look it over and go over things you did wrong. They'll give you advice to improve it. Your lecturers care about you and want you to succee...

Advice for starting university

Image
Some of you are probably going to be starting university this September and are probably really nervous about it. It is quite daunting as it is a very big step from A Levels. I just thought I'd give you guys a few tips about starting university as I have completed my first year. 1. Do a course you'll enjoy or want to do for the rest of your life I can't stress this enough but do something you enjoy. Don't do something because it might make you look smart on your CV or you'll feel your family will be proud of you for doing this course. No. Do whatever it is you enjoy or are really interested in. Don't think about the end of the degree and getting a job because you don't have to worry about that until your third year. Just do something you enjoy and really want to pursue a career in. 2. Live in halls for your first year I've said this many of times but I feel like if you want the full university experience then go and live in halls. You will meet ...

Sometimes it's hard to be positive

Image
I'm trying to be more positive this year. I'm trying to get rid of most of the negativity that goes on in my mind. However, sometimes I can't help when negative thoughts begin to cross my mind which then causes me to be a little anxious or worried about the day ahead. I try and try to not it let it get the better and yet there it is getting the better of me and then I become afraid to face things. I get the feeling when I'm about to go somewhere like a lecture. I start thinking was if I supposed to do something for it or if I got a bad mark in an assignment I'd be terrified that the lecturer would bring it up. That happened to me last Friday and a part of me didn't want to go to that lecture. Then I thought hiding is not the answer. It'll look worse if you don't show up at all.  So I just went to the lecture and it was better than I expected. It was just another PowerPoint presentation and the assignment wasn't even mentioned. It made me rea...

What's in my uni bag?

Image
Hey guys! I thought I might show you what is in my university bag. I just had a lecture today and this is what I carry around with me. It's not much, but   I wanted to show you guys to give you an idea of what is typically in a uni bag. Here we go.  So this is my bag. I had this backpack when I was in school and I do believe I have a blog post of what I had in it while I was at school. I'll leave a link to that post below so you could check it out. Anyway, I like this backpack. It's by the brand Roxy. I'm not sure they sell it any more as I got this a few years ago. Although I'm sure you can get similar looking bags. It has a front pocket which fits a lot in it and also a main pocket. I'm going to show you what I keep in my front pocket first and then the main pocket. In the front pocket I keep: My phone My purse A mini hairbrush and mirror Soothers throat sweets My headphones Tissues Pepsi Cherry Lip Balm N...
