How To Spend Your Birthday Alone

As you get older, birthdays are not the same as they were when you're a child or teenager. Sometimes you'd be lucky to actually have anyone to spend your birthday with and even luckier is whether you actually have a day off from work on your birthday. However, if you're lucky enough to have a day off work on your birthday and you realise you're going to be spending it alone then I have some ideas you can do to make your birthday more special even though you're on your own.

1. Plan a day trip somewhere
My best tip is to get out of the house because sometimes spending your birthday in your own home can make you feel like it's not really your birthday. Plan a trip to somewhere you'd like to visit or somewhere you've been to before. Whether it's somewhere with lots more shops than what your little town has or has lots of beautiful sights to see. Wherever you plan on going, make sure it's somewhere you'd enjoy. It doesn't have to be far away where the majority of your time is spent travelling. It can be as close as you'd like it to be. Just make a day of it.

2. Go to the cinema
A fun thing to do is the cinema. Find your nearest complex and make a day of it. Enjoy a tango ice blast and see a movie you've been looking forward to seeing. If you've never been to the cinema alone then I'd highly recommend you give it a try because you'll never be the same. You'll also notice that you're not alone and guarantee there will be another person watching a movie alone. Personally I love going to the cinema. I have so many fond memories of the cinema growing up and I still enjoy it as an adult. It's also a nice way to spend your birthday.

3. Have a meal at a cafe or restaurant
Something you can try doing is having a meal out at a cafe/restaurant by yourself. Honestly, it's not as bad as you think it will be. Whenever I go places, I'm listening to an audio book and with wireless headphones you can easily hide you're listening to anything. Places I love are where you can order from an app like Wetherspoons because you don't even have to talk to anyone except the person bringing you your food. Also you can order whatever you want with nobody's judgement so if you want dessert then order dessert. After all, what's a birthday without cake?

4. Movie marathon
Of course you don't actually have to go anywhere on your birthday. You can stay at home. One thing I'd recommend is having a movie marathon. One birthday I watched the entire Harry Potter series and it was good fun. I even got popcorn and wore my comfiest clothes. Made like a blanket, pillow fort. It was great. Plus I didn't have to get all dressed up, I could just chill in my own space.

5. Pamper day
Another thing you can do is indulge in a bit of self care. Have a whole pamper day whether you actually go to a physical spa or do it from the comfort of your own home. Give yourself a little pampering whether it's giving yourself a facial, sorting out your nails or just looking after your skin. Remember you are important and you need to take care of yourself so use your birthday to remind yourself why self care is important.

6. Stay in a hotel
If you're lucky enough to have two days off on your birthday then why not go crazy and book yourself into a hotel for a night. I don't know about you but I love staying in hotels. It's just fun and gives you a chance to get away from your own real life. It also means you can enjoy a place you want to visit even more because you can dump all your things in your hotel room and go out without the worry of carrying everything. Plus most hotels have king sized beds so you'll have the luxury of one to yourself. It's definitely something to consider doing for your birthday.

7. Treat yourself
As you get older, presents become less and less plus you'd be lucky to even get a card on your birthday. This where treating yourself comes into full force because nobody knows you better than you do. Go ahead, treat yourself to something you've always wanted. For me I bought myself a gaming swivel office chair because I've been needing a good quality office chair for a while. It's one of those chairs that even has arm rests on it. It may be a random thing to treat myself with but after sitting in this chair and writing these blog posts, I know it was the best present I've ever bought myself. So if it's your birthday, treat yourself. Make the most of it because it only ever happens once a year so why not embrace it and enjoy yourself even if you're spending it alone.

There we have it. Those are my recommendations on how to spend your birthday alone. I hope they were helpful to any of you.

That's all I have to say for now. Thank you for reading my blog and I'll be back soon with another post.

See you then.
