Autumn Boredom

As the days start to get shorter, the weather starts to get colder or rain a lot more than it can be a real struggle to find things to do especially on your days off. You may find yourself scrolling on social media or watching YouTube videos before realising your day has been wasted not doing anything productive. I thought I'd share some ideas on things you can do over these next Autumn and Winter months when you're bored.

1. Binge watch a TV series/Movie Marathon
This one is a fun idea and you can make a whole day out of it. If there's a TV series you've been meaning to watch but just haven't found the time to do so then why not plan on your next day off to have a day where you binge watch a show. Go all out with snacks and make your room nice and cosy. I know it's not the most productive thing to do but it might make you happy especially if you've been excited about watching a series. Even watching a movie series can also be fun. Make your room look like a cinema and just escape from reality for a while. Maybe put your phone in another room so you're not distracted from what you're watching.

2. Read a book
Another thing to do is read a book you've been meaning to read for a while. You don't realise how good it feels to be lost in a book especially if it's a really good book and two chapters in you're already hooked. Although it can be hard to sit in one place and read for a few hours which is why I love audiobooks. It means I can do other things while also indulging in a book. I'm currently listening to an audiobook as I type this post. It's I Heart Forever by Lindsey Kelk. I'm actually determined to finish the I Heart Series and I'm already enjoying this one so far. I feel a bit guilty as I have the physical book but sometimes life gets in the way and I just find an audiobook works perfectly for me. I can listen to it on the way to work or on the bus home from work. It feels good and it takes my mind off things as I listen to the book. Either way it means I can get my to be read list right down and makes me feel a little bit better. I've currently only got six books to go until I've read my entire bookshelf and that is an achievement I never thought I'd do.

3. Write a book
Something that I really got into during lockdown was writing my own novel. Granted I never published that book and the first draft is saved on my laptop probably never to be looked at. Especially as I decided to switch my writing to instead working on my autobiography. I've always enjoyed writing and working on my own autobiography has been kind of fun. Granted I never know who's going to actually read the story of my life but it's a little project I wanted to do for myself so that one day if I ever have children or grandchildren I can give them something that tells the story of my life. Not that anything exciting has happened in my life but you know what it's my life and I thought it was a fun project to do. Sometimes you find yourself writing for hours. I once wrote what felt like 5000 words in one day which seemed impossible given at university I struggled to get 2000 words. Granted I was writing about something I know and not something that required multiple references. Plus with a first draft you can make as many mistakes as you like. Either way I enjoy writing my own book, even if nobody will ever read it and I would highly recommend it as something to do when you're bored. Make up your own story or even write about your own life. Either way, have fun with it and you never know what you may create.

4. Declutter
It's the perfect time to have a little declutter of your life. Especially as you start switching from your summer things to winter things. Maybe there's some clothes you never really wear that you could potentially donate. Maybe you have a bunch of clutter just sitting under your bed that you never use. Either way it's good to have a declutter every now and then as it makes you realise all the important things you need in life. Plus it's a great feeling after a decluttering session as it gives you peace of mind that you have no more clutter in your life.

5. Go for an autumn walk
Sometimes it's nice to get out and go for a walk. Especially in a woodland area where you can see the leaves on the trees changing colours and falling to the ground. You can pick up some conkers on your way and get this nice feeling of Autumn. You could even take a flask with coffee, tea or even some hot chocolate and have a nice drink surrounded by nature. It's a great feeling to get outside and away from the busy life of modern technology. This brings me nicely onto my final idea.

6. Switch off for the day
Honestly, how many times do you find yourself checking your phone or scrolling through social media? If your answer is a lot then maybe it's time to consider having a day offline. Honestly, we're so wrapped up with social media that we forget to actually enjoy the moment. Try going on a day where you're not on your phone or laptop and just experience what life is like when you're not constantly checking your phone. It may take a full plan of a list of things to do and maybe hiding your phone away so you're not tempted but it's manageable. Maybe go the day without it and get it back in the evening. Either way it's good to have switching off periods where we're not glued to our phones and there's definitely many benefits of doing so. I challenge you on your next day off to switch off for the day and see how you get on. You may find you actually enjoy it and maybe even make it a part of your daily life.

There we have it. Those are my suggestions on what you can do when you're bored this Autumn. Let me know if you have any other ideas. I would love to hear them.

Thank you for reading my blog and I'll be back again soon with another post.

See you then.
