10 Things To Do Before I'm 40

Today is my 30th birthday which means in 10 years time, I'll be 40 years old.

I thought I'd do a little bucket list which will hopefully be more achievable than my 30 things before I'm 30 bucket list. I also thought I'd make this list a little shorter so it's slightly easier but still has some things that may seem impossible right now in the moment in time.

Let's get started.

1. Move out of my mum's house
I've been living with my mum for a few years now since moving back from Manchester in 2021. Overall it's been a good living situation and I've contributed my part but for a while now I've been longing to move out and finally have a home of my own. Some places I can decorate, manage and just enjoy the freedom. Luckily, I know this will be happening soon as I have plans to move in with my boyfriend which is going to be nice especially as I won't be on my own at least. This will probably be the first thing I achieve on this bucket list which is why it's at number one on my list. It's probably going to be a big change in my life but it's one that has been a long time coming and I'm very excited about it.

2. Get into a fitness routine finally
This is something that I keep telling myself I need to do. I'm pretty sure the majority of my new year resolutions have been losing weight. This time though I really want to set my mind on this as I'm thirty years old. I'm not getting any younger and if not now then it'll probably never happen. Also, I want to have more energy in my thirties as this is the time when I should really be doing all the things I want to do and also getting into fitness will also help with some of the next items on the list.

3. Get married
I know everyone says marriage is a piece of paper but honestly, having a whole day that is just about you and your partner, celebrating spending the rest of your lives together is something I've longed for. I've been to a couple of weddings and always imagined what my wedding will be like. Nothing like theirs. Literally. I don't want a big fancy wedding in a stately home or outside. I want a very small, intimate ceremony with the closest people. I don't even want bridesmaids or groomsmen. I'd rather spend more money on the honeymoon than the wedding. The more I think about having a very small wedding, the more excited it makes me as I know I'll be surrounded by people I care about. I'll be able to talk to every guest and I won't have people I barely know there. I even considered getting eloped or just going to the registry office and be done with it. I understand why people want a big, fancy wedding. For me though, I'm introverted and like my small circle of people in my life so a small wedding will be perfect for me.

4. Have kids
As I'm not getting any younger, it will be time to start thinking about having kids. Not anytime soon though. I want to get the first three things on my bucket list out of the way first. I want to be settled in my own home with my partner before the thought of children comes along. Ideally I would like to have two because as someone grew up with an older brother, a lot of my best childhood memories were with him and I want the same for my kids. So yeah, in the next couple of years I would like to start a family.

5. Visit Italy
One country I've always wanted to visit is Italy. I feel like it's such a beautiful country to visit and has so many iconic cities like Rome, Florence, Milan and Venice. I just feel like it would be such a wonderful place to visit. Plus as somebody who loves pasta and pizza, I feel like it would be a dream to eat in the country of the experts. Definitely one of my dream holiday destinations and I would love to visit there before I'm forty.

6. Go to Paris and just be a tourist
Another dream holiday destination for me is Paris, France. I've always wanted to go there and just be a tourist. Go on the Eiffel Tour and visit other sites like Notre Dame, the Arc de Triomphe as well as the Louvre. Also it's the city of love so to go there with my boyfriend would be pretty cool in itself and romantic. I know it's a cliche but honestly I would love to visit Paris before I'm 40.

7. Create a hobby room in my own home
I've had visions in my head of having a room just for all my hobbies I have. I would love this kind of space in my home. It wouldn't just be my own space, I will share it with my partner also. It would have a little library with a reading nook, a space for video games and watching movies. It would have a desk which will have all my scrapbooking and art supplies then for my boyfriend will have his PC setup also. I just know it would be my favourite room of the house and it would be a place to relax, chill out and just hang out with my boyfriend on our days off.

8. Hire a campervan and go on a road trip
I would love to go on a campervan road trip. Ideally I'd love to go around Scotland and do the North Coast 500 as I feel like Scotland has a lot of beautiful scenic routes and just making the most of travelling plus having a camper van means you'll have the bare necessities. I just think it would be a cool thing to do to hire a campervan and just go on a road trip but not just any old road trip. It'll be nice to go somewhere I haven't been before. Even to somewhere like Yorkshire. I don't think I've ever stepped foot in Yorkshire before except maybe passing through on a train so I would love to go there and see the Yorkshire moors and other cool places.

9. Go on a cruise
One thing I've never done is go on a cruise. When I was younger, I thought what's the point but as I'm older and wiser now I can see the appeal. You can visit several different countries, you have everything you will need on board the ship including food and entertainment. I'm not sure exactly what cruise I'd go on as of yet but it would be a nice experience to try at least one cruise before I turn 40.

10. Write a book
It has been a dream to write a book. I've started and not completed several novels in my twenties. I even started a writing journey on this blog not that long ago. I do have the idea for a story but it's just putting it all together. I feel like in my thirties I really want to conquer this goal and actually write the book I've always wanted to write. Even if nothing comes of it and it just sits on my bookshelf for nobody else to read. Even if I do give it to publishers or editors and they're like this sucks. At least I can say I did it. I wrote a book and nobody could take that away from me. By the time I'm forty, I can say I'm an author as well as a blogger. That would be a nice thing to add to the resume.

There we have it. Those are ten things I want to do before I'm forty. Hopefully this will be more achievable than my thirty bucket list. Maybe I'll do one thing each year as I do have ten years to go before I'm forty.

Let me know what's one thing on your bucket list that you've always wanted to do. I would love to hear about it in the comments below.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog and I'll be back again soon with another post.

See you then.
