Travel Tips
I'm going on holiday to Majorca on Wednesday which I'm so excited about as I always love going on holiday. I'm a weirdo that even gets excited when I go to the airport. It's just that whole excitement before you travel. I thought I'd share some travel tips that have really helped me to make my whole travelling and holiday experience as relaxing as possible. Let's get started.
1. Organise all your travel documents
I'm not just talking about making sure you've printed off your boarding pass. I'm talking about checking your passport. Is it in date? There's always new travel rules so do your research before you travel. Make sure you have your insurance sorted. Find out if you need visas. Make sure you keep your travel documents in one place in either an organiser or a little folder.
2. Make a packing list
This is something that has always helped when travelling is making a list of everything I need and I'm talking about everything. This way when it comes to packing, I can refer to my list and make sure I've not forgotten anything. I make two separate lists, one for my checked luggage and the other is for my carry on luggage. It makes it easier for me and just keeps me on track with everything I need. Plus you can take the list with you and refer to it when you're packing your luggage at the end of the holiday.
3. Keep it light
It's very tempting when you have that checked luggage allowance to fill it with everything. The reality is that you don't need everything under the sun. At the end of the day you are going somewhere that will have shops where you can purchase forgotten items. Try to be realistic with your packing. When it comes to clothes, mix and match outfits so you can wear clothes more than once. Are you going away with other people? Why not discuss sharing things like toiletries? Someone could bring shampoo and conditioner, someone else could bring body wash or hairspray. Of course you don't have to share but it might make your packing a little lighter if you do.
4. Have things to do in the airport and on the plane.
Sometimes when you've checked in, got past security and now in the departure lounge. Sometimes you have a bit of time on your hands before you have to go to your gate. It's important to have things to do to keep you occupied. Of course most people may have a drink or a meal before they're flight but sometimes it's good to have other things that don't cost money. I try to avoid using my electronic devices like my phone as I don't want to use up the battery. There are charging stations in the airport but they are like gold dust in an airport, guaranteed to be occupied. Having things like a book or a puzzle book to do to occupy your time can really benefit you. I bought myself an mp3 player so I can use that to listen to music as the battery lasts and I don't mind using it up instead of using my phone. If you're really unsure what to do in the airport, why not try to do 10,000 steps around the airport if you're up for it. Tire yourself out before your flight so you could try to sleep on the plane. Find ways to pass the time in the airport and then of course have things to do for your flight. Download a movie or tv series on your devices. I recently got a tablet so I'm going to download things on my kindle and watch movies on the plane. It's all about keeping yourself busy as it's very easy to get bored on the plane and in the airport.
5. Arrive Early
Did anyone ever used to watch those airline shows on YouTube or on TV where passengers arrived too late for check in? It baffles me that people do this because it's been embedded in my brain to arrive three hours before a flight by my parents and I stick by that rule every time. You never know what is going to happen when you get to the airport. There could be massive queues at check in or security that can delay you. Planes are not like a bus. There is a whole process with a plane. They have to close a gate forty minutes before departing. It doesn't matter if the plane is still on the tarmac and the doors are sealed. That's it. They're not going to reopen the door just for one person. Arriving early to the airport it's not that difficult. Stay the night in a hotel nearby the night before if you have to travel far to the airport. As there's no airports near where I live, we always travel the night before and stay the night in a hotel because I'd rather be early and have plenty of time to spare than too late.
Those are my travel tips, I'm sure there are plenty more out there but these are the only ones I can think of for now but they've helped me out a lot when it comes to travelling.
