It's the end of the month which means it's time to share everything I've been loving this month and there have been quite a few things so let's get started.
Pride and Prejudice (1995 TV series)
I have fond memories of watching this growing up. My mum had the VHS box set which was split in two. It’s such a charming and sweet story. Reminds us that we shouldn’t always believe in our first judgement of people as it can always be quite the opposite. The casting is wonderful with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle as Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet. The chemistry between the actors is phenomenal as well as the rest of the cast. It’s such a faithful adaptation to the book and as it’s split between 6 episodes, it’s able to cover more of the story. I definitely prefer this version of Pride and Prejudice so it was nice to watch it this month.
Lego Harry Potter Years 5-7
It was inevitable that if I played Lego Years 1-4 then I’d play years 5-7. I do enjoy this game for many reasons, the graphics are better and the map is more extended. I like the fact the main hub area of Diagon alley is even more extended with the streets of London and King’s Cross Station. Even when you get to Hogwarts, you have to take the long path there which also has a path to Hogsmeade when you unlock it. You also get to learn different spells like Diffindo and Aguamenti which is nice. I think I prefer years 1-4 as that’s my preference of the series but overall this is a fun game and I like they expanded on what they had with the first game. Definitely didn’t stop me from getting 100% though as you can see. Although I completed the game and was missing one character token. Luckily it was a random Ravenclaw student in ravenclaw tower so didn’t have to search very hard. Except a tiny google search on which character it was and where it is. One cool thing is at the end of the game each location has a ghost which gives you stats of the area so if you’re missing a gold brick, character token, student in peril or a red brick then it will tell you which is handy if you’re trying to 100% the game. I really enjoyed playing this game and that’s why it’s on my favourites list.
Pride and Prejudice (2005 film)
I felt the need to watch the 2005 film Pride and Prejudice which I must say it's also a good adaptation of the novel. Of course due to film time frames, it couldn't fit every detail of the book inside it unlike in the TV series but I will say it does have its charm to it. Some bits do feel a little sped up like with the family crisis halfway through the story. However some scenes are done very well. The scene in the rain with Mr Darcy and Elizabeth is done very well. It captures the emotion of the scene and two leads portray it very well. Of course there's the penultimate scene set at dawn which is also a very romantic scene. It does have its charms this version and of course on its own it would be a great adaption but sometimes you can't help but compare it to its predecessor. This is definitely not a bad film and it's definitely a comfort movie to enjoy with a great cast of well known actors. I did enjoy watching it this month as it is a good adaptation of the novel.
Sense and Sensibility (1995 film)
I feel like I'm in a Jane Austen themed month. I'd never actually seen this movie or read the novel before. I was aware of it and thought I had briefly seen the ending once when it was on TV but never fully watched it. I didn't actually know what it was about other than it had two sisters in it. I decided to watch it on my train home and was glad I did because it was a sweet film. Very easy to follow and it was comforting to watch. The actors were incredible with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. It also made me realise how many actors I knew in this film (mainly from Harry Potter) but it was a sweet film. You could feel yourself wanting the characters to fall in love but also felt their heartbreak when it happened. Plus I could listen to Alan Rickman talk all day. Definitely a sweet comfort film and I'm surprised it took me so long to see. I do actually own a copy of the book which I may have to read at some point this year. From watching all these adaptations of Jane Austen, it's definitely made me want to reread Pride and Prejudice as well as read Sense and Sensibility for the first time.
Titanic Sinks Tonight
I heard about this programme online then found out that it was finally out. I ended up watching all the episodes in one sitting. It tells the story of what happened that faithful night. It was very intriguing as it's told entirely through the perspectives of the survivors. It's a sort of a documentary style programme except with actors portraying the survivors but recreates scenes from the event. It definitely shows back then the way different classes were treated. What I found crazy was how there was the ship The Californian nearby that could have potentially saved a lot of people but because the radiographer had gone to sleep after saying they were stopping the ship due to the ice bergs. They never knew Titanic was in trouble. They thought the fireworks were warnings of not to go near because of the ice. Had they just woken the radiographer to find out what was going on perhaps there would be different circumstances. What is interesting is how a lot of the passengers didn't even know the ship was sinking or they needed to evacuate. There was no tannoy system or emergency alarm back then. I'm sure this event definitely improved on ships emergency protocols after this event. There was also a lot I had never known about that night which I found interesting and it definitely shed a whole new light on the tragic event. I would highly recommend watching it if you're interested in Titanic. It's available on BBC iPlayer.
There we have it, that's everything I've been loving this month. Let me know what you've enjoyed this month in the comments below. I would love to hear it.
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog and I'll be back again soon with another post.
See you then.
