My Packing Tips

I'm going away for a week today to my dads house which means I had to do some packing. I thought today I'd share with you guys some of my packing tips to help you out if you're struggling to pack for going away.

Let's get started!

1. Use a small suitcase

If you're an overpacker then you may be tempted to pack more than you need because you have room for more in your suitcase. To stop you from overpacking consider taking a carry on sized suitcase. You will pack less because you don't have room for it and you'll be able to prioritise what you actually need for the trip. Plus you'll soon realise that you don't need a lot. When I've over packed on clothes and just in case things I soon realise that I never get around to using half the things so I only pack what I need and know I'll use throughout.

2. Make a list

I love to make lists and making a packing list is a must for me. I find it easier to pack everything when I have it written down in a list. It also helps me not to forget anything on the morning of travel such as my make up and hairbrush. Making a packing list will make your life a little easier.

3. Have a toiletry bag ready

I find myself using the same toiletry bag all the time and the reason I use it is because it has a lot of my travel size toiletries inside. I'm always prepared if I need a toiletry bag for when I go away from home because I know everything I need is right inside. I have shampoo and conditioner in mini form as well as a travel size toothbrush and toothpaste. I also keep deodorant and a body spray too. I also have a body wash as well as other mini travel toiletries. It's just super handy to have one prepared and all I do is the week before I go away just check it to see if anything is running low or needs replacing. It makes life just a little bit easier when it comes to packing.

4. Know how much you can carry

This might be a bit of a random thought but usually when you're packing sometimes you don't even think about having to carry all your luggage until it comes time to carry your luggage. Figure out what works best for you. Whether you don't mind having a tote pack and wheeling a suitcase or even carrying everything on your back. Just know how much you can carry and if it's too much for you then you may need to reconsider. For me I know I'm getting on a bus for four hours so I don't have to worry much but I will have to drag my luggage on a fifteen minute walk to get to the train station then walk through the station to get to my platforms. My biggest preference is to have a hand free because I just find it less stressful. What I'm doing is taking my four wheel carry on and having a backpack on my back. I know I'll be able to handle my luggage and easily get around with it when I need to. Just something to bare in mind when you're packing is knowing how much you can carry because guess what. You'll be the one carrying it.

5. Make sure your suitcase or luggage is identifiable.

It's all good and well knowing the brand of your suitcase and what it looks like. However, the majority of suitcases tend to be either black or grey and it can be very easy to mix them up. Put something on your suitcase to make it stand out to you. I've put a label on my suitcase with my name on and put a bandanna on the handle of my suitcase just as an extra identifier. At least then you'll know exactly what your luggage looks like and also if it gets lost (worse case scenario) then you'll have a good description of it rather than just saying it's a black suitcase. So just make sure your luggage is identifiable.

6. Wear your heaviest shoes

If you're planning on packing boots or huge walking shoes then I'd consider wearing them if I were you. Shoes can take up so much room in your suitcase and if you have a carry on suitcase then you're gonna need all the room you can get. I'd consider wearing your heaviest shoes when you're travelling because you won't have to worry about trying to make them fit in your suitcase. Converse or slip on shoes are smaller and can easily fit in your suitcase under all your clothes. So consider your footwear when you're travelling.

7. Leave a little extra space

My final tip is to leave a little extra space in your luggage. When you go away you may go shopping and buy something so leave a little extra room in your luggage just in case you get something new while you're away.

Anyway, that's all I have to say for now. I hope these packing tips were helpful to any of you planning on going away anywhere.

I'll be back tomorrow with another post.

See you then.
